IEIE1

Darryl Wee took me to a tiny in-house restaurant called ‘ieie’. He is a master of finding small restaurants in peoples homes. Ieie is a bit of a long walk from Asagaya Station: through a park, past a few blocks of Danchi Housing and inside the front door of a regular looking house, but it still manages to top all those ‘only-opened-one-day-week’ places with it’s random and haphazard opening times. The food was good but the sauces (yuzu-chili!) and fresh bread were really special. Most excitingly the herbs for the tea were collected and mixed by a genuine ‘witch’ in Nagano. Photo of the dining room and chalkboard in the middle of what may be Tokyo’s quietest street.
